One-Day Master Class: The Art of Dialogue

In this one-session workshop, we'll talk (and talk and talk) about dialogue. What are the qualities of good dialogue and how can we, as writers, create conversation on the page that moves a story forward but still seems “real”? We will read and discuss examples of published stories with notably good dialogue, and we will do in-class writing exercises.

Elliott Holt is the author of the novel You Are One of Them, a New York Times Book Review Editor's Choice and finalist for the National Book Critics Circle's John Leonard Award for a first book. Her writing has been published in the New York Times, Slate, Time, Virginia Quarterly Review, Kenyon Review, and elsewhere, and her fiction has been awarded a Pushcart Prize as well as fellowships from Yaddo and the MacDowell Colony.
